About Lenea
Lenea is an enchanted musician & artiste whose music is rich with depth and feeling. She draws upon her real-life experiences, hard-hitting lyrics, and melismatic vocal style to share personal stories through song.
The Goddess Embodied, Lenea embodies and embraces the multi-dimensional aspects of being human and connects with her listeners through open-hearted honesty and a clear love of music. Her powerful, soulful voice, laced with ancient tones, flows effortlessly, blending reggae with soul, jazz, hip-hop, and even the blues.
Her vocal fluidity was seeded in her migratory childhood when she was nurtured in Jamaica on an intoxicating musical feast of Reggae, Roots, Soul, Jazz, Hip Hop, Musical Theatre, and Pop music which expanded when Lenea migrated to London in her teens.
From soloist performances to acoustic sets, full bands to orchestras, the stage is her home and Lenea has performed in the UK, USA, Jamaica & Asia.
Her love of music and songwriting extends beyond her own works to a genuine appreciation of the many musicians, authors, and actors who have inspired her artistry and Lenea has a deep love for artists who were known way before her own time.
Her acoustic school mixtape "A Raw Slice of Reality" which she created for an assignment while studying music, was inspired by a blend of modern and retro artists including Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Nina Simone, Tracey Chapman, Damian Marley, Bounty Killa, The Fugees and more.
It was based on a theme of Freedom and contained cathartic and psychologically reflective songs that delved deeply into issues of Identity, Ethnicity, Spirituality, Economic Exploitation, Slavery, Self-Love & Ancestry.
This rough "sketch-level" body of work opened the doors for Lenea to perform with several Reggae Stalwarts & New Era artists including Gregory Isaacs, John Holt, Cocoa Tea, Yami Bolo & Anthony B, Omar Lyefook, Jah9 & Addis Pablo.
Lenea is an artist whose whole life has been completely immersed in performance art & wellness. A trained actress, she played the lead actor in "Hear My Son" which premiered at the British Film Institute.
She has self-published the two books In Honour Of Me (self-penned) & Oshun The River Goddess written by her daughter Nefer Nika at 12 years of age. Together, they co-produced the all-female play, "In Honour Of Us" which ran at The Canal Cafe Theatre in London.
In 2015 Lenea founded the Feminine Approach to Smai Taui (comprised of Egyptian Yoga, African Tai Chi, and Sound Healing) & the annual all-female gathering: I Love My Womb. She has taught in the UK, Uganda, USA, Singapore, Jamaica, Cuba & Bali, and at several festivals and events including the annual I Love My Womb, the Om Yoga Show, the WOW Festival & African Utopia to name a few.
A few years ago, Lenea returned to live in Kingston, Jamaica to integrate her personal experiences with her music while gaining a deeper understanding of herself, her culture, and the world. Following this integration, Lenea released an ongoing self-narrated documentary series, entitled Life After Death, which provides a personal, candid, and controversial journey into her heritage, life, and culture while challenging the patriarchal status quo and breaking generational patterns within the immediate and wider society.
Lenea has a lot to share and does so fearlessly as she is fuelled by love, inspired by the divine, and has a penchant for creating and expressing magic!
Her songs including Original Woman, I Decline, Show Me The Way, W.I.L.L Pleasure and Kisses create the perfect transit and context for this new mystical and enchanted chapter within her musical journey!
The "GoddesSing Transit" EP features 8 Goddess tracks. Lenea fuses Reggae, Dancehall, Jazz, Roots, and R'n'B with music from her back catalog that documents chapters within her musical journey and celebrate Lenea's transition into this new chapter.
The "GoddesSing Transit" EP precedes the upcoming musical release of "Goddess" which will drop later this year!
In her own words - "The GoddesSing Transit reflects a personal journey of growth and healthy self-realization accompanied by several boundary-induced middle fingers to those who try to restrict or distort peace, perception, and artistry.
We are born to be free beings who live meaningful lives, not the inner lining of pre-designed, easy-pack, factory-built boxes." - Lenea xxIn her own words - "The GoddesSing Transit reflects a personal journey of growth and healthy self-realization accompanied by several boundary-induced middle fingers to those who try to restrict or distort peace, perception, and artistry.
